Sunny Sunday

This afternoon we decided that, rather than stay home and referee countless tussles between two tired boys who refused to go and have naps, we'd go out and hopefully distract them, or worst case scenario subject everyone else to their crying fits as well! Seeing as it was a wonderful warm and sunny day we decided to go into Geelong to the Waterfront.

Into the car we loaded the pram, the boys, ourselves, hats, drinks, sunscreen, insect repellant (the flies were really "sticky" today), nappy bag, and Bella and her lead. Drove into town, parked the car and unloaded it all. Short excursions with small kids = taking enough luggage to cover any eventuality; Murphy's Law says that when you forget it, that's the day you need it (ref: Mother's Day 2006 when we had to make a 1 hour detour to buy clean clothes after BJ threw up all over himself and we didn't bring a change of clothes with us for the 3 hour return trip)

We went for an enjoyable stroll along the waterfront, past the carousel and some of the painted bollards which depict people (specific identities and general public) from Geelong's history. Here's a couple of pics of a couple of groups(from www.visitgeelong.org.au)- one of my tasks for 101/1001 is to do the entire walk from Rippleside to Limeburner's Point and look at all 106 of them.

Today we just walked about 1.5km to the kids' swimming pool and bay swimmming enclosure at Eastern Beach. The area was packed with families enjoying the water in the heat, and when we reached the pool and kiosk/cafe area the cooling sea breeze was blocked, so we turned around and went back to the car, stopping on the way to give Bella a cooling drink. We loaded everyone and everything back in the car again, and drove a few minutes into the city to treat ourselves to Baskin Robbins icecreams. We got a park in the shade so left Bella in the car with the windows down, and went and sat inside. BJ looked oh-so-grownup sitting at the table eating his scoop of Hokey Pokey (in a cup rather than a cone), while John and I enjoyed our double scoop waffle cones. Even Toby got a taste and looked as pleased as punch once he got over the shock of how cold it was.

We were only out for about two hours, but it was a lovely realxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon and recharge the batteries for the coming week.
